VISIT A LASER SHOW on Prague Old Town Square

ERASMUS ORGASMUS HOT TIP!!! :-)

Prague astronomical clock will celebrate already 600 years from its creation. The Old Town clock is one of the most precious and most famous Prague historical sights. It is located on a Gothic tower of the Old Town Hall on the Old Town Square. The clock is the mature work of Czech Gothic science and technology and at the same time a magnificent artistic sight.

The horloge has three main parts. The most interesting is the astronomical part, showing positions of celestial bodies. Under it there is placed a calender circle, which was equipped with paintings by Josef Mánes in the 19th century. Around the astronomical part there are located movable figures. An important part is also a movable procession of twelve apostles, who show up every full hour above the astronomical part.

One of the oldest parts of the horloge is composed of a mechanical clock apparatus and astronomical dial from the year 1410. The apparatus was constructed by a watchmaker Mikuláš z Kadaně probably according to a project by Jan Šindel, who later on became a professor of mathematics and astronomy at the Charles University. The Prague astronomical clock was only the third machine of its kind. The first horloge was constructed in Padua in the year 1344.
